The 2010 Palm Springs Desert Resorts Restaurant Week we be held June 4th through the 13th. Promoters are hoping to have at least 100 restaurants participating. Nearly 25,000 diners enjoyed the cuisine from Palm Springs area restaurants last year.
Palm Springs, California is a four hour drive from Phoenix, and only hour and a half from many Southern California beach cities.
Another great Southern California getaway destination is Long Beach, California. We spent quite a bit of time in Long Beach, specifically, 2nd Street in Belmont Shores. Have had many breakfasts at the Shore House Cafe. Met freinds at Legends Sports Bar to watch a game, and have heard great music at Panama Joe’s Grill & Cantina. Another favorite relaxing place to enjoy a meal is at Parkers’ Lighthouse on the water.
Just south and adjacent to Belmont Shore is Naples Island, and south of that is Seal Beach (another cool quaint little beach town). Belmont Shore does not offer the “waves” that Newport Beach or Huntington Beach do, it has a huge beach. Bring your bikes and enjoy riding around the Belmont Shore neighborhoods, Naples Island and the Long Beach peninsula.
Other Long Beach attractions include The Queen Mary, Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, Long Beach Museum of Art, Aquarium of the Pacific, and Catalina Island Day Cruise.

A great place for Arizona residents to escape the summer heat is Big Bear Lake, California. It is about six hours from Phoenix, and a little less than eight hours from Tucson. It is not too far from Palm Springs.
The are some great Big Bear rental homes and cabins. Big Bear Lake attractions include Moonridge Zoo, The Big Bear Solar Observatory, Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain, and the Big Bear Lake International Film Festival.
Check VisitBigBear.org for the many recreational options too.
