Alan H. Curtis, Tucson area resident, is best known for his “plein air” style of impressionism. His paintings capture the beauty of the American scene, from the dynamic landforms of the desert to waterlily-filled ponds of Eastern Massachusetts and the golden hills of Northern California. Curtis has spent his life recording on canvas the scenes, people, and places most important to him.
Among the recordings are paintings of his six children. His current studio is in Northwest Tucson.
In his own words, an artist should be more than a painter. “An artist should build boats, be able to fix cars, create beautiful gardens, cook delicious meals, bake homemade breads, and whip out an occasional masterpiece.”
Alan Curtis’ studio gallery is open for private showings only.

Curtis’ work, which has been featured in American Art Review magazine, holds a unique ability to capture both subtle and dramatic emotions. His paintings and prints reflect his talent for capturing diverse American themes, such as a hot eggs-and-bacon breakfasts, dramatic Southwest landscapes, California’s blooming hillsides, and the flower harvesters of Half Moon Bay.

Another great Southern California getaway destination is Long Beach, California. We spent quite a bit of time in Long Beach, specifically, 2nd Street in Belmont Shores. Have had many breakfasts at the Shore House Cafe. Met freinds at Legends Sports Bar to watch a game, and have heard great music at Panama Joe’s Grill & Cantina. Another favorite relaxing place to enjoy a meal is at Parkers’ Lighthouse on the water.
Just south and adjacent to Belmont Shore is Naples Island, and south of that is Seal Beach (another cool quaint little beach town). Belmont Shore does not offer the “waves” that Newport Beach or Huntington Beach do, it has a huge beach. Bring your bikes and enjoy riding around the Belmont Shore neighborhoods, Naples Island and the Long Beach peninsula.
Other Long Beach attractions include The Queen Mary, Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, Long Beach Museum of Art, Aquarium of the Pacific, and Catalina Island Day Cruise.

There are many great towns and beaches in Orange County, California. Some more quiet than others. But there is nothing like renting a California Beach House in Newport Beach, California on the boardwalk. You should try it at least just once. You can take peaceful morning walks along the surfline, or just walk to to a little corner store and get a cup of coffee. By day, it’s fun to head out to swim and surf in the ocean, and almost as fun just people watching from your front porch. Sunsets are spectacular and if you are going out, restaurants and entertainment are all within walking distance.
Just north, is Huntington Beach which has great waves, and a place where you have to buy a surfing sweatshirt, or shirt. And also, you have got to eat at Wahoo’s Fish Tacos. They have them in several locations around Southern California, but in Huntington Beach Wahoo’s is on Main Street. Fish tacos, rice, beans, and chips and salsa. So good. Eating at Wahoo’s is something I could not do once. I need to go there each time I visit.
